Lazare Kaplan International Inc., has appointed, Charles A. Meyer as vice president for Sales.

Mr. Meyer assumes this position following the death of Bob Speisman in the terrorist attacks of September 11.

Since January 2000, Mr. Meyer has been Managing Director of Bellataire Diamonds, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of LKI. Mr. Meyer has over 20 years of experience in the diamond industry. Before coming to LKI, he was President of Henry Meyer Diamond Co., Inc., a third-generation leader in the cutting and marketing of diamonds to upscale retailers. Prior to this, Mr. Meyer was Executive Vice President of CitiSport, Inc., a real estate development company. He also served as a commissioner in New York City’s Housing and Development Administration.

“Chuck has a long history of commitment to the diamond industry,” said Leon Tempelsman, president of LKI, “and since joining LKI two years ago he worked closely with Bob Speisman so that he is uniquely qualified for this new responsibility. Chuck understands today’s changing marketplace and is enthusiastic about seeking out and forging new opportunities for LKI. He brings to his new position strategic planning skills, leadership, and many personal relationships in the industry.”

Lazare Kaplan International Inc. sells its diamond and jewelry products through a worldwide distribution network. The company is noted for its ideal cut diamonds, which it markets internationally under the brand name, Lazare Diamonds.
