Kimberley Process Calls for “Vigilance” on Central African Republic

Following reports of violence in the diamond-producing region of Bria in the Central African Republic, Matthieu Yamba, current chairman of the Kimberley Process has called on the diamond trade to observe increased vigilance to avoid stones from that area.

Antwerp World Diamond Council, the industry group, said in a statement that it will increase its alertness for imports of diamonds from this region. It noted the KP Working Group of Diamond Experts will immediately start collecting relevant information to develop a footprint for diamonds from Bria.
