Jewelry Store Owner Shot and Killed



An armed robber shot and killed an employee of a retail jewelry store located on Madison Avenue, between 75th and 76th Streets yesterday afternoon, according to a Jewelers’ Security Alliance Crime Alert.

According to local news reports, the shooter, in his 30s and wearing a blue overcoat and gray slacks, came into the store and said he was robbing it. The man fired a semiautomatic pistol and hit a 71-year-old worker in the chest and then fled.  The robber escaped with a large quantity of jewelry, according to JSA.  The employee, identified by news reports as Henry Menahem later died at Lenox Hill Hospital

The shooter is still at large.  According to JSA, the robber is described as a black male, 30s, 5′ 10" and 150 lbs.
