Jewelry gifts rocked MTV Video Music Awards

Jewelry, watches and gemstone-studded shoes were among the items that celebrities and entertainers received backstage at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, held Aug. 28 at Radio City Music Hall, New York City.

All celebrities attending the awards program received an elaborate basket of gifts and had their pick of many more products. The products ranged from jewelry and apparel to electronics and travel.

Vintage jewelry from OldCities Estate Jewelry, Ellensburg, Wash., was the attraction for many younger stars. Britney Spears pinned a 1930’s butterfly brooch on her shorts and chose a white gold jewelry item set with a 4 to 5 ct. Ellensburg Blue Gemstone exclusively designed for the MTV Video Music Awards. Actress Hilary Duff wore a white gold ring with a 5-ct. stone backstage.

Leather band watches from Calvin Klein Watches was another popular item.

There were few women who could turn down custom-made shoes from top New York designer Reed Evins. Carmen Electra reportedly said she loved the pink suede with diamonds pair. Jessica Alba chose the rhinestone shoes and Beyonce Knowles went for the pair with rose petals on them.

Celebrities were able to choose their gifts in a talent gift a “Backstage Celebrity Gift Retreat,” designed by design consultant Mark Zeff.

The Retreat was produced by Backstage Creations, Santa Monica, Calif. Founded by Karen Wood, formerly a talent coordinator on over 50 award shows, the gift retreat allows major corporations as well as up-and-coming designers the exclusive opportunity to personally introduce their products and services to celebrities at industry honors.
