Jewelry Does Well at Bon-Ton and Neiman Marcus Direct

Jewelry was cited as a top seller in April for both the Bon-Ton department store chain and Neiman Marcus Direct.

Bon-Ton cited fine jewelry as a “best performing business” along with home goods, shoes, cosmetics, and accessories. Overall, though, the month of April was disappointing for Bon-Ton, with comp sales decreasing 5 percent, and total sales decreasing 5.3 percent, to $187.2 million.

Jewelry was also a top selling category in April for Neiman Marcus Direct, the upscale chain’s catalog and online division; women’s apparel, handbags, beauty, and men’s also performed well.

Comparable revenues at Neiman Marcus Direct for the third quarter of fiscal year 2012 increased 17.5 percent, the company said. Overall, Neiman Marcus revenues climbed 7.5 percent.
