This past weekend, Miley Cyrus was the musical guest on SNL. I’ve been team Miley since her Hannah Montana days. (Was I too old to be watching that show in college? Probably, but whatever.) I eagerly devour her every appearance.
Though this performance was no exception to the norm in showcasing her great vocal talent, what really caught my eye was her wardrobe, in particular during the first performance. Clad in a black, floor-length gown featuring bejeweled fishnet arms and matching stockings, Miley was sophisticated with plenty of edge, like a rock ‘n’ roll Jessica Rabbit.
I loved that look enough on its own, but it was Cyrus’ collection of rings on her left hand that sealed the look as one of my favorites, probably ever. A collection of black and red, she has inspired my new favorite gemstone color combination (for more proof on her jewelry prowess, see my colleague Emili’s most recent Trend File).
Maybe it’s my recent affinity for solitaire, the black and red like the suits on the cards. Or, perhaps it’s that infectious holiday drama—how amazing does that color combo look against thick, rich velvet?
Whatever it is, I’ll be cobbling together any black and red jewels I have on hand to wear in groups for the coming holiday season—and you should consider doing the same. In retail terms, that’s one order of a super dramatic, ultra-rich holiday showcase display.
