JCK 5 Social Media: Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Facebook

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness
Month. In the first week of this month-long, awareness-building campaign,
retail jewelers have already started a flurry of activities. Breast cancer
awareness is a cause many retail jewelers champion, so it’s no surprise recognizing
their social media efforts on this topic has a wide range of focuses, from
product tie-ins and in-store events to off-site races for the cure and breast
cancer survivor lunches. There were so many Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Facebook listings it was difficult to highlight only five.

A charitable cause with a product tie-in – brilliant: “Let’s
support Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Come in and we can help you design a
Chamilia bracelet to remember those who have lost their battles and to honor
those who are fighting everyday!! Stay strong!”

E.M. Smith Jewelers

Chillicothe, OH

This is one of many events this jeweler planed – well done:
“Don’t forget about our Cancer Survivors Weekend tomorrow and Saturday! Join us
for a Beat Cancer Boot Camp Class at 11am on Saturday. Snacks will follow the
class. At 1pm Guardians of the Ribbon are bringing a Pink Fire Truck for
everyone to sign! Call the store for more details.”

Mountz Jewelers

Harrisburg, Camp Hill, and Carlisle, PA

Another example of product tie-ins with a charity: “October
is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re going pink! The new Pandora pink
leather bracelets and Lucerne charms have arrived. The Lucerne flower
represents life, and in ancient Chinese culture, it was known as the ‘healing
flower.’”

ZAIKEN Jewelry

Edgewater, NJ

Again, a product tie-in, but this one is quite unique – and
has a cool name: “Limited-edition Pink Sapphire Evil Eye necklace to support
Susan G. Komen for the Cure. One hundred percent of proceeds being donated – fighting
cancer never looked so good!”

Harold Jaffe Jewelers

Toledo, OH

Each year Jeff Jaffe and his staff create a new breast
cancer bracelet: “The Race for the Cure is upon us. Stop by our booth on Sunday
and say hello. Also enter to win our 2009 breast cancer bracelet.”
