IGI sponsors New York City holiday metro card giveaway

The International Gemological Institute is sponsoring a Metro Card giveaway at Shea Stadium to promote the use of mass transit during the holiday season in New York City.

Through the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, IGI has donated more than 1,000 complimentary, round trip ($4) Metro Cards.  The initiative began Nov. 23 and will continue through Jan. 4, 2006. The cards will be distributed every Wednesday (Matinee Days) to commuters who park at Shea Stadium and use mass transit to enter Manhattan.

“We are pleased to provide this donation to visitors and hope it will add to the wonderful experience of shopping for gemstones and fine jewelry in Manhattan during the holiday season,” said Jerry Ehrenwald, president of IGI. “All of us at IGI are proud of our commitment to consumers as we continue to serve as their independent expert evaluator of diamonds and gemstone jewelry.”

IGI worked in collaboration with the New York City Department of Transportation and NYC & Company to help kick off the 2005 Holiday Mitigation Plan. The holiday traffic plan is implemented every year by the NYCDOT to help relieve some of the heavy traffic in New York City that occurs during the holiday season.
