The International Gemological Institute has expanded its diamond report series to include Spanish and Portuguese language options.
According to the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council, the Hispanic jewelry market is estimated at $8 billion a year. Spanish-language cable network Univision took the No. 1 spot in primetime television ratings for July, prompting JCK senior editor Rob Bates to wonder whether or not the jewelry industry was missing out on the Hispanic market.
“Taking into account the current and impending jewelry market growth among Hispanics and Latinos, we saw an opportunity to provide an essential service,” said IGI president and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald, in a statement. “We are thrilled to equip retailers and consumers alike with the necessary tools to understand their reports and the respective diamond quality.”
