Fourteen students at the International Gemological Institute graduated from the IGI’s first Polished Diamond Grading class in Athens, Greece, the IGI announced Dec. 13.
Greek gemologist George Spyromilios jointly organized the class that taught students how to grade clarity, color and cut of diamonds using myriad diamond samples.
Graduates became equipped to identify, grade and understand diamonds according to world grading and market standards.
The six-day course was held Nov. 14-19 at the Electra Palace Hotel. Jean Mangnay, IGI worldwide head of education, led the course.
Following the success of the first course offering, IGI plans to hold a second Polished Grading Class in Athens in early 2011. For more information e-mail education@igiworldwide.com.
