Govt.: August Retail Sales Up

The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that advance estimates of U.S. retail
and food services sales for August were $363.7 billion, an increase of 0.4
percent from the previous month and 3.6 percent above August 2009 figures.

Total sales for June through August were up 4.7 percent from the same period a
year ago.
Retail trade sales were up 0.5 percent from July 2010 and 3.7 percent above
August 2009 figures. Nonstore retail sales were up 10.5 percent from August
2009.
