Gold, Silver Erase Gains

One day after hitting a new record of $1,432 an ounce, the price of gold
fell below the benchmark price of $1,400 an ounce on Dec. 8.

At press time, it was trading at $1,382 an ounce.

Analysts said the sudden retreat was due to an increase in
the value of the dollar.

The silver price also plunged. At press time, it was trading
at $28.38, below the benchmark $30 level.
