The 23.24 ct. Golconda Blue, an ultra-rare blue diamond that Christie’s had hoped to sell for as much as $50 million at its May 14 Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva, is no longer being offered for sale, the auction house confirmed to JCK.
“The Golconda Blue’s historic provenance, uncovered by Christie’s research, has generated considerable market interest and much excitement globally,” said a company spokesperson. “At this time, the owners have made the decision to pursue a sale of the diamond to a family member.”
Found in India’s famed Golconda diamond fields, and once owned by Harry Winston, the fancy vivid blue pear-shape was being offered in a ring created by celebrated Parisian jeweler JAR.
“Exceptional noble gems of this caliber come to market once in a lifetime,” said Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s international head of jewelry, in a statement touting the gem.
