GIA scandal makes the gossip page

As many have feared, the Gemological Institute of America scandal has finally made the consumer press—albeit in a small blurb in Cindy Adams’ column in the New York Post.

“You know the Gemological Institute of America, right? Sacrosanct, pure, pristine final word on gems?” the famed gossip columnist asked in her column Tuesday. “It’s possible this organization is suddenly not being graded as flawless. … I’m hearing Carol Channing’s next big hit could be, ‘Diamonds are a Lawyer’s Best Friend.’ “

The media mention on the gossip page may not be much of a surprise since the new lawyer suing GIA on behalf of ex-Harry Winston employee Max Pincione, Joseph Tacopina, is a high-profile attorney who served on the Michael Jackson defense team, defending a Jackson associate. He told JCK he has already received “numerous” media inquiries.
