GIA names Gerald Buckley as director of development

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointed Gerard J. Buckley as director of development. He joins a team of ambassadors whose goal is to help ensure GIA’s growth through donations to the Institute.

Buckley has more than 25 years experience in development fund raising, public relations, and marketing. He last served as vice president of Development at the Escondido (Calif.) Humane Society.

Buckley, who holds a bachelor’s degree in English from St. John’s University, New York, joined the Scripps Foundation in1981, serving first as director of Annual Giving for Scripps Memorial Hospitals Foundation in San Diego, where he helped raise more than $25 million for the organization. He completed his tenure in 1993 as vice president of Special Gifts for Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science.
