Gemological Conference in Chicago

Gemworld International, Inc., and the American Gem Trade Association Gemological Testing Center, are hosting their first joint gemological conference to be held on September 13 and 14 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.

It’s called the World of Gems Conference and its theme is “Integration of Information.”

“We are bringing some of the top gemological topics to this conference presented by some of the best in the industry,” said Richard Drucker, conference co-chair. ‘We intend to have many seminars on subjects such as treatment identification, and then integrate this into valuable information on pricing and disclosure. We will have broad appeal to retailers, wholesalers, and appraisers. The conference promises to be fun and educational with a chance to network with industry leaders.”

The cost of the conference is $395 and includes all breakfasts and lunches with a cocktail reception on Saturday. Subscribers of the GemGuide or members of AGTA receive a $50 discount.

For full conference information for this event, a separate web site has been established. Log on to www.worldofgemsconference.com to register and to reserve hotel rooms.

Lore Kiefert is the other conference co-chair. Key speakers include John I. Koivula and James Shigley of the Gemological Institute of America, Gary Roskin of JCK, Richard Hughes, Robert Kane, Ronald Ringsrud, Gina Latendresse, Eric Braunwart, AND Christopher Smith.

In addition to the seminars, there will be a few choice industry displays. Optional free user group meetings will take place on Friday before the conference and the AGTA will hold a hands-on limited attendance session on Monday for an additional fee.

Gemworld is the producer of the GemGuide and GemGuide Appraisal Software, and the AGTA Gemological Testing Center is celebrating its 10-year anniversary as an independent major colored gemstone laboratory in New York.
