Fortuna’s Spring Jewels Auction Starts Tomorrow

The auction will include 334 finds from Tiffany & Co., VCA, Cartier, and more.

While not as well known as the Christie’s and Sotheby’s of the world, the New York City–based fine-jewelry auction house Fortuna is nothing if not incredibly resourceful. Its “Spring Jewels” event, which kicks off tomorrow, is jam-packed with signed pieces that will appeal to dealers, serious collectors, and casual jewelry shoppers alike.

Take a look at the catalog here; you can place bids now or in real time during the live auction on April 6 from 12 to 5 p.m. To ensure no one beats you to the punch, download Fortuna’s app for round-the-clock access to all the action.

For a peek at what to expect, check out my Top 10 picks from the auction below.

Lot 44 – Plique-a-jour Diamond and Ruby Fairy Pendant in 18k Yellow Gold

Spectacularly Art Nouveau, plus I have this thing with fairies.

Lot 71 – 1.00 Carat Diamond Ring

Fancy diamond shapes are trending, and this engagement ring, with its G-color, SI1 clarity pear-shape center stone, seems like a great deal (if a bidding war doesn’t jack up the estimate).

Lot 125 – 28.65-Carat Aquamarine, Sapphire, and Diamond Ring

One of the auction’s many glamazons, this aquamarine cocktail ring stands out to me because of the razor-sharp, clean lines of the emerald cut stone and the little cabochon sapphires that are kind of hiding in the gallery.

Lot 150 – Raymond Yard Art Deco Diamond and Jade Necklace

All this circa 1915 piece needs is a pair of silk Poiret harem pants and a matching turban.

178 – Van Cleef & Arpels “Classique” Gold and Diamond Watch

The combination of gleaming 18k gold and diamonds, stately Roman numerals, and that navy blue silk strap is completely timeless and elegant.

Lot 205 – Tiffany & Co. Ruby and Diamond Strawberry Brooch

I’d pin this juicy little novelty to the yoke of this white linen top, even if I was just heading out to the farmer’s market.

241 – Buccellati Diamond and Gold Cuff

We recently reported on the sale of Buccellati to a Chinese firm, which means a likely increase in demand for vintage and estate pieces from the iconic Italian house. Better stock up now.

Lot 253 – David Webb Gold Hair Barrettes, Set of Two

Who knew David Webb did hair accessories? I’m getting a Grecian vibe from the braided motif and rich golden hue—wouldn’t these be amazing with a flowy, ivory chiffon wedding gown in lieu of a tiara?

Lot 294 – Graff Yellow Diamond Stud Earrings

Because everyone needs a pair of modified, round, brilliant-cut yellow diamond studs from Graff.

Lot 329 – Van Cleef & Arpels Coral and Diamond Ring

Vintage VCA pieces with coral are forever on my wish list and this piece is so sculptural and so perfectly 70s.
