Emerald Ear Pendants Set Record at Christie’s Auction

A pair of emerald earrings set a new record for a pair of emerald ear pendants at Christie’s Hong Kong auction on Nov. 29.

The pair of 25.38 and 23.12 ct. cushion-shaped Colombian emerald earrings sold for $4 million, or $83,000 per carat.

Overall, the sale brought in $82.7 million, with 78 percent sold by lot and 79 percent sold by value.

In addition, a pair of D-Flawless round diamonds, weighting 35.77 and 35.61 cts., achieved $16.4 million, the highest ever price for colorless diamonds in Asia.

“Fine colored stones and natural pearls also fetched extremely strong prices, helping Christie’s realize $172 million, the highest ever annual result for any auction house in Hong Kong,” said Vickie Sek, director of the jewelry department at Christie’s Asia, in a statement.
