DTC inks its first deal with sightholders

The Diamond Trading Company has signed its first ever agreement with sightholders to license a flagship brand – Nakshatra – with an option to take full ownership of the brand in the future.

Since its launch by the DTC in September 2000, Nakshatra has developed into one of the best known brands in India, De Beers said in a statement. After several years of supporting Nakshatra, the DTC decided earlier this year that sightholders participating in the flagship were best placed to maximize the brand’s potential in the long term.

Sightholders Dimexon, Mahendra Brothers and Digico founded a company, Brightest Circle Jewellery (Private) Limited, earlier this year with the intention, over time, to take on the full ownership of the Nakshatra brand.

Under the agreement which was signed Nov. 8, Brightest Circle has been granted an exclusive license to use the Nakshatra brand, and has an option to purchase the brand from DTC.
