Diamond demand strengthened during January and February, said a statement from De Beers subsidiary Diamdel.
The company said demand was most pronounced for “near gems” and “smalls.”
Diamdel made 323 lots available in its first auction cycle. Some 58 percent of the lots were won by non-sightholders.
“The first sales of 2012 met with solid improvements in demand across all product categories and geographies,” said Neil Ventura, CEO of Diamdel, in a statement. “All our indicators point towards a continued, broad based strengthening in demand in the coming weeks.
