Deborah Norville and Ashford & Simpson to head JIC Gem Awards Gala

The Jewelry Information Center announced that Deborah Norville will be the Mistress of Ceremonies of the inaugural Gem Awards gala the evening of Friday, January 10, 2003. The black-tie dinner and awards ceremony will be the first annual salute to journalistic excellence in coverage of jewelry and related issues.

Norville is a two time Emmy Award Winner, former co-host of the “Today” Show, and presently the anchor of “Inside Edition,” ABC’s nightly syndicated newsmagazine. Norville will host the dinner and awards ceremony held at Cipriani 42nd Street, to award consumer magazines, newspapers, and international journalists, as well as Tiffany & Co. for its iconic marketing campaign. Other highlights of the evening will include a Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to Gedalio “Gerry” Grinberg of Movado for his visionary achievements in the watch industry.

Ashford and Simpson, the Grammy award winning songwriting and performing duo, best known for their top 40 hits “Solid” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” has been secured as the evening’s entertainment.

Approximately 700 guests are expected to turnout for the gala.

“We are thrilled by and grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support the first year of this event,” says JIC Executive Director Elizabeth Florence. “To have an Emmy award winner as our emcee and Grammy award winners as our entertainment adds an element of excitement that befits the caliber of our esteemed honorees.”

Co-chairs for the event are Koichi Takahashi of Mikimoto (America) Co. Ltd. and Lowell Kwiat of Kwiat Inc. The journal chairman is Steven Shonebarger of Bulgari Corp. of America. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Jewelers Charity Fund for Children.
