De Beers Canada said its “Carats to Costa Rica” fundraiser
donated $40,000 to the Stanton
Territorial Hospital Foundation, which raises money for a local hospital in
the Northwest Territories.

“This is the time of year people are thinking about diamonds
and the giving of precious gifts, so we weren’t surprised when advertising for
the raffle had to be cancelled because raffle tickets were sold out well before
the draw,” said Cathie Bolstad, De Beers Canada director of external and
corporate affairs. “Eighty percent of the 400 tickets available were sold …
within just three weeks.”

The fundraiser’s grand prize winner is Trudy Wisnoski, a
local resident of Yellowknife. She won a package that included a .64-carat Snap
Lake Diamond in a setting of her choice, along with a trip for two to Costa
Rica.
