Dazzling Jewelry With Winter White

As much of the country is blanketed with snow, it’s the perfect time to savor one of the season’s most beautiful looks—a wardrobe color palette built around the hue winter white. Sometimes venturing into the void of color that is pure white, transparent crystal and near-colorless diamonds, and other times combined with soft taupe or a pale nude hue, winter white is a chameleon with its ability to juxtapose hard and soft, bright and light, dazzling and gentle.

Winter white is very much a fashion darling this season, as evidenced by the following three beautiful photo spreads. One point in common is that winter white is best stunningly adorned with jewels of white metals and clear stones.

The September 2010 issue of Elle magazine suggested a white gold ring with rock crystal and diamonds from Tous, and a Chanel “rock and crystal” necklace, the editor’s note stating: “Accessorize creams with icy embellishments and bold silvery jewelry.” The fashions shown range in texture from smooth embellished silk jersey to chunky cotton and mohair, from mink to acrylic, and from sequins to duck feathers, the latter featured on a dress by Jay Ayr.

The December 2010 issue of Lucky focuses on texture and advises that, in order to “avoid looking like the ice-cream man, mix contrasting textures like a silky slipdress and furry vest.”Lucky prefers soft and relaxed shapes and accents of camel and heather to “add coziness.” No jewelry is featured except for the necklace adorning the model wearing Erin Wasson X RVCA.

The December 2010 issue of Marie Claire features actress and cover model Emma Watson wearing “the season’s palest nudes and riches ivories”—”Using a palette of eggshell, cream, and blush, the MC fashion team whipped up looks as light and airy as the 20-year-old’s new ‘do.” The jewelry prominently featured includes a necklace by Michael Spirito, a pair of bracelets from Stephen Dweck, earrings from Made Her Think, and a ring from Pyrrha.

When choosing jewelry for a winter white ensemble, diamonds, and other white or near-colorless gemstones or crystals provide emphasis with a bright sparkle; pearls supply a softer glow. Any of the metals platinum, white gold or sterling silver can be employed beautifully to make a winter white look positively dazzle.
