Custom Jeweler Richard Rilliet Dies

Richard D. Rilliet, a New Jersey native who worked as a custom jewelry maker in Santa Barbara, Calif., died Jan. 11 at age 60 after a battle with cancer.

Rilliet attended New York Phoenix School of Design and Bergen Community College. He also studied at the Gemological Institute of America, and worked for Adrian Jewelers in Wyckoff, N.J. He relocated to California in 1989 and worked a custom jewelry maker/hand-engraver, designing for private clients as well as Santa Barbara jewelry stores.

In 2000, Rilliet was hired by Tiffany & Co. as a master engraver and returned to New Jersey.

He is survived by extended family.
