Citizen Watch Company donates $100,000 for Katrina relief effort

Citizen Watch Company said Thursday that it is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief effort. Additionally, individual Citizen employees have already contributed through various local and national charities to this effort.

“Citizen has partnered with hundreds of retailers in the Gulf Coast region over the years, and we all feel particularly moved by this tragedy,” said Laurence Grunstein, president, Citizen Watch Company of America, Inc. “Our thoughts are with them, along with the thousands of other people affected by Hurricane Katrina.”

Recognizing their timely response, Citizen said it has chosen the American Red Cross as the recipient of their donation because of their hands-on involvement. The focus of Red Cross disaster relief is not just on meeting people’s immediate emergency disaster-related needs such as food and shelter, but on assisting individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
