Cindy Chao’s Royal Butterfly Brooch on Display at Smithsonian

The National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian
Institution
has inducted Cindy Chao’s 18k gold Royal Butterfly brooch into its
halls. Featuring a mix of rough and colored diamonds, color-changing sapphires,
colored sapphires, rubies, and tsavorites, the piece took more than two years
to create. Cindy Chao The Art Jewel was established in 2004, and her butterfly symbolizes
the ongoing metamorphosis in the advancement of Chao’s craftsmanship.

By making the piece a part of the museum’s other celebrated
gems—including the Hope diamond—the institution aims to inspire and delight
visitors from around the globe.

Cindy Chao’s 18k gold Royal Butterfly brooch, which took
more than two years to create, is now on display in the National Museum of Natural
History at the Smithsonian Institution.
