CIBJO to discuss future of global jewelry industry at annual event

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, will be holding its annual congress in Bangkok, from Feb. 28 to March 1 at the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa Hotel.

Delegates representing the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Russia will make presentations on a variety of subjects. Among them are: Carlo Alberto Carnevale Maffe of SDA Bocconi University, Milan, Italy, who will speak on “Dancing on rolling stones, competitive strategies for the jewelry industry,” and Gareth Penny, Executive Director of the Diamond Trading Company, London, who will deliver an “Update on the results and expectations of the implementation of DTC’s Suppliers’ choice policy.”

In-depth regional analyses will be given by Tawfique Abdullah, CEO of the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre, UEA on “Past, present, and future of the jewelry retail distribution in Dubai,” and Sergei A. Oulin, vice president of Alrosa Ltd., Moscow, on “Russian strategy for the growth of the domestic and export diamond market.”

Other speakers include William E. Boyajian, president of the Gemological Institute of America on “Standard and quality measurements for diamonds and colored stones certification process,” and Eli Izhakoff, chairman and CEO of the World Diamond Council, on the “Status and results of the Kimberley Process.”
