CIBJO Creates “Networking” Commission

CIBJO has created a new commission, called the CIBJO Association Executive Networking Commission (CAENCOM), to connect executives in national jewelry associations within the CIBJO community.

Ken Mulhall,  president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Jewellers Association, who presented the concept at a CIBJO breakfast meeting, envisions an “Association Executive Panel” which will “open the floor to identify current challenges for association executives, and through the spirit of sharing, solutions will be identified.”

Online networking tools will be put in place to keep the association community connected throughout the year, including up a discussion forum and a blog area on the CIBJO website.

“Ken’s initiative is not only very welcome but also comes timely, ” said CIBJO president Gaetano Cavalieri. “As a rule of thumb, jewelry associations often face similar dilemmas and challenges. Especially during these difficult economic times, our members will be well served by sharing ideas and possibly by pooling resources, thus enabling them to run similar programs while reducing the cost of their implementation. CIBJO is the perfect platform for such initiatives.”

The commission was created during the 2009 CIBJO Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, The commission’s appointed officers are:
Ken Mulhall, President (Canadian Jewellers Association); Carole Grousey (Fédération Nationale HBJO, France); Ian Hadassin  (Jewellers Association of Australia); and Lourens Maré (The Jewellery Council of South Africa).
