Chopard USA acquires new home

Swiss watchmaker and jeweler Chopard USA has purchased a five-story mansion in New York City to house its North American headquarters. It has been located in Rockefeller Center, but has outgrown that leased space, says Chopard USA Ltd. President Thierry Chaunu. The new facility, located at 21 East 63rd Street, between Fifth and Madison avenues, will also serve as home to Chopard’s sister company, the private jeweler De Grisogono.

Located around the corner from the Chopard boutique on New York’s Madison Avenue, the new headquarters “will allow the company to continue its phenomenal growth in the U.S. market by expanding our service capabilities,” said Chaunu. It also “represents a commitment and belief in the future of this leading market by the Scheufele family, owners of Chopard,” he added.

Built in 1900, previous owners of Chopard USA’s new home included renowned jeweler Jean Schlumberger and singer Diana Ross, who used it as her private residence in the 1970s. Nafinsa Bank of Mexico purchased the building in 1994 and used it to host the Mexican government tourist office and trade expansion office and the bank’s trading facilities until the end of 2002.
