I dare not say there has ever been a collective “forgetting” of emerald, as the gemstone has been a major staple among the industry and its connoisseurs for, well, ever. But with all this recent hoopla over millennial pinks and in-demand purples (warranted, to be sure), a pop of green almost feels new. Funny how that happens.
Add the fact that emeralds made major waves on the red carpet at a number of recent events (the 2018 Golden Globes in particular), paired with the reality that May is only a quick three months away (get those birthstone selections ready), and I have to wonder why we don’t just talk about emerald every single day?
There is no shortage of impressive emeralds out there—Lorraine Schwartz can attest to that, I’m certain—but what’s just as enthralling as a gigantic, beautifully set gemstone is an artful arrangement of smaller ones. Fernando Jorge‘s Electric Shock earrings embody that aesthetic perfectly.
With 14.5 carats of the precious gem, they’re certainly no slouch in the weight department, but it’s the designated, wave-like setting of pear and round-shape emeralds that imparts the biggest impact. The resulting pattern really does appear as an electric shock, or, perhaps, the image of a heartbeat (they sure are enough to send your heart racing just a little faster).
Down to their rose gold, rope-like detail, this fluid pair of earrings is positively alive with movement. I also find them particularly alluring due to that rose gold pairing, as you so often see emerald with white or yellow gold, instead; it gives the design a warm, almost vintage appearance.
For those not as drawn to the all-green look (few and far between, I’m sure), a multicolor option is also part of the collection, featuring a tantalizingly fruity assortment of tourmaline and sapphire (see them on Jorge’s website, here). Whichever style you’re most drawn to, you can’t deny the fact that this design is shockingly good.
