Britt’s Pick: Erica Courtney’s Mahenge Spinel Ring

Baguette diamonds are having a major moment, and they delight in many forms: alone, in a sparkling band; in singular form, like in a teeny tiny pair of stud earrings, or petite pendant; or as an accessory to a major gemstone, like Erica Courtney‘s gorgeous masterpiece, pictured here. Gemstone hounds may not believe it, but it wasn’t the 5.34 ct. Magenge spinel featured in Courtney’s Diana ring that captured my attention first—instead, it was the two rows of diamonds running down the chunky band, a style I have developed an affinity for as of late. Making the one-of-a-kind piece even more impressive is that center spinel, which is like the perfect icing on top of a deliciously moist, perfectly-baked cupcake. Wallflowers need not apply: This is a mega style with various elements that all call for attention of the highest sort. And I’m more than happy to answer that call. Because just when you think the details stop on that head-on view, you get this:

Brava, Erica Courtney. Brava.

Diana ring in 18k yellow gold with 5.34 ct. Mahenge spinel and 5.35 cts. t.w. diamonds, price on request
