Bonhams & Butterfields to Host Famed Gem Carver

Award-winning gemstone carver and fine jeweler Glenn Lehrer will present “The
Artistic Mysteries of Gem Carving” at Bonhams & Butterfields’ San Francisco
saleroom March 19.

Lehrer’s presentation will give insight about his work and the history of the
art form in addition to allowing clients and guests the opportunity to pose
questions. A 30-year industry veteran, Lehrer has won 13 international
gemstone cutting and jewelry design awards, and his gemstones have been
featured on the cover of 15 major publications in the United States and Europe.
His largest sculpture, Bahia, cut with artist Lawrence Stoller, hangs
permanently in the foyer of the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, Calif.
The 5-foot, 450-pound quartz crystal has been deemed “The World’s Largest
Pendant.”

“The Artistic Mysteries of Gem Carving” event coincides with previews for the Salon
Jewelry and Watches and SoMa Estate Sales. It is free and open to the public
but reservations are requested. To request a reservation contact lynne.arkin@bonhams.com.
