Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet congratulated Swiss yachting team Alinghi Tuesday for winning the 32nd America’s Cup international race, off Valencia, Spain.
Alinghi, the defending champion, beat the Emirates Team New Zealand on Tuesday by just one second. It’s the first European team to successfully defend the Cup, sailing’s most prestigious award, in the race’s 156-year history.
Audemars Piguet has been a long-time sponsor and supporter of Alinghi and has created several commemorative timepieces, including the 2007 Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph, a limited-edition series (2,007 pieces worldwide) in forged carbon, rose gold or platinum.
Francois Henry Bennahmias, president and chief executive officer of Audemars Piguet North America, said, “When you add up hard work, talent and an incredible team spirit, success is never far away. Alinghi has demonstrated this again, and we’re very proud of our early association with such an amazing team.”
