There is “substantial
demand” for rough after the positive 2010 holiday season, Russian diamond
producer Alrosa announced Feb. 7.
Alrosa sold $313 million
worth of rough and polished diamonds in January 2011. The company
projects that it will sell $880 million worth of stones in the first quarter of
the year.
