Alleged Jewelry Counterfeiter Arrested

Artour Katanov, 40, has been arrested and been charged with selling “counterfeit” jewelry to jewelers and pawn shops, according to the Lincoln County News.

Katanov is accused by police in Stamford, Connecticut, of selling stainless steel jewelry that had been treated with a plating to make it appear like gold.  Police in Linocln County, Maine, allege he tried to sell the same kind of jewelry there.

Any business that may have purchased jewelry from Katanov is urged to contact their local law enforcement agencies, the newspaper said.

Katanov is described as standing 5’09”, weighing 150lbs with black hair and brown eyes. He speaks with an accent and claims to be from Russia, the newspaper said.
