AGTA Hires its First COO

The American Gem Trade Association has named Edwin L. Griffin, Jr., as its first chief operating officer. His appointment became effective Nov. 14.

As COO, Griffin will be responsible for the management of staff and the administration of the Association’s activities at its headquarters in Dallas as well as its internationally recognized gem laboratory in New York. Additionally, he will be responsible for the strategic development of marketing, brand development, and promotion as a major membership recruitment initiative is launched

Griffin previously served as resident/chief executive officer of Meeting Professionals International for more than 12 years and executive director of the Kentucky League of Cities for more than 11 years. He has also served as a consultant on marketing and branding in the hospitality industry as well as president/CEO of the Florida Lodging Association. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Masters of Arts in Public Administration, as well as a Certified Association Executive designation.

“The appointment of Ed as an integral part of our executive management team marks a milestone in our history as we initiate a member growth campaign and develop a broader array of services available to the industry,” said Douglas Hucker, AGTA CEO. “His extensive knowledge of non-profit association management will strengthen and compliment our professional staff and world-renown laboratories and gemologists.”
