5 Outrageously Expensive Jeweled Desserts

Back in February, I decided to give up sweets. It wasn’t until last week, while on vacation, that I had my first taste of a cookie, cake, or candy, in what felt like an eternity. And our industry wasn’t making it easy, either. I’m constantly inundated with stories about the world’s most expensive desserts, from the diamond-topped cupcakes to gold flake–sprinkled ice cream. But now that my sweet tooth has been satiated, I’m okay with embracing the idea of those pricey baked goods. Check out five of the world’s most expensive desserts. And by the way, do you think you’re really just paying for the jewels, or do the creations taste amazing, too?

$1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae

This sensational concoction was created for the Serendipity 3’s 50thanniversary. What makes it so expensive? According to the restaurant’s website, you’ll chow down on five scoops of Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla, edible 23k gold flakes, the world’s most expensive chocolate drizzle, and a pricey (read: tiny) bowl of Grand Passion caviar. Oh, and you get to eat it with an 18k gold spoon.

Frozen Haute Chocolate, $25,000

Stick around for seconds at Serendipity 3 and you can indulge in its world-famous frozen hot chocolate. If you’ve ever tried it, you know it’s delicious. But is it 25-grand delicious? Well, if you opt for the Frozen Haute Chocolate, you’ll get a blend of 28 rare cocoas infused with five grams of edible 23k gold. And you won’t walk away empty-handed—souvenirs of your pricey dessert include the 18k gold and diamond-encrusted spoon and goblet and a matching diamond bracelet.

$1.65 Million Fruitcake

Fruitcake tends to be the butt of all holiday jokes (I always feel sorry for it, personally). But you’d have to really hate it to refuse this masterpiece, created by a Tokyo-based pastry chef. Covered in 223 diamonds, you can literally have your cake and eat it too.

The $130,000 Platinum Cake

This cake was designed by Japanese pastry chef Nobue Ikara with the intent to encourage more women to wear platinum. The cake, which was showcased by Platinum Guild International, is draped in everything platinum—from pins and pendants to chains and even edible pieces.

$1.4 Million Strawberries Arnaud

Light on calories, heavy on bling, this sweet strawberry dish might just take the cake. The $1.4 million dish featured not only what I would hope are the greatest strawberries in the world but also a 4.7 ct. pink diamond ring and a $25,000 bottle of wine to wash it all down (well, not the ring).  P.S.: If you find yourself in the Big Easy at Arnaud’s restaurant, you can grab the dish—minus the ring—for just over $8.
