Danhov’s New Blackened Engagement Ring Semi-Mount

It’s not easy to be innovative in the bridal arena, yet Jack and Shant Hovsepian have done so again. At JCK Las Vegas, the owners and design forces behind Danhov Jewelry in Los Angeles debuted their award-winning Abbraccio Swirl engagement ring semi-mount in oxidized gold. It’s so simple, yet has not been done before: take a popular bridal style and blacken it.

Many manufacturers are doing that now in rose gold, but no one else in black. And as bride’s tastes are now skewing more sophisticated thanks to the reintroduction of champagne diamonds (see here and here), rough stones from designers like Todd Reed, and oxidized metals market-wide, I’m thinking that Hovsepian’s single, simple little twist may gain traction as well.

Shant Hovsepian says he made it for “the rock star chick” and that it has a matching band upon request. Stores told him they thought “it was interesting,” but no orders have yet placed. That doesn’t surprise me, since it often takes retailers a while to warm up to something this new and different. But moving forward, I think we’ll see a lot more oxidized mountings.
