Ellen Haddigan Leaves Diamond Empowerment Fund

Ellen Haddigan will be leaving her position as founding
executive director and vice president of the Diamond Empowerment Fund, the
industry charity created by Russell Simmons that “gives back” to Africa.

Haddigan has accepted the post of executive director of the Society for
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, beginning January 17, 2011. She will
also be devoting time to the Garden State Market, the fruit and vegetable green
market that she will open soon in Englewood, N.J.

Haddigan did a great job putting the DEF on the map, and
will continue to serve on the organization’s governing board.

“It was a bittersweet decision to leave D.E.F. as I am very
dedicated to the organization’s mission and have greatly enjoyed getting to
know so many great people in the industry,” she says. “2010 was D.E.F.’s most
successful year to date, and with the growth of our Boards, the fund raising
success of the DEF London event, and the important work of our beneficiaries
CIDA City Campus and African Leadership Academy, I am confident the
organization will continue to grow in scope and service under the leadership of
a new executive director.”

A search is on for her replacement.  “We are accepting recommendations and resumes from experienced people in the diamond and jewelry industry, as well as people from the philanthropic sector,” says co-president Dr. Benjamin Chavis.
