It seems that jewel robberies in France are reaching epidemic levels.
The country was hit by a yet another jewelry heist this week—a smash-and-grab that yielded a reported $2.6 million haul.
According to reports, thieves jammed an SUV through the front of the Casty store at the prestigious Place Vendome in Paris. They scooped up $2.6 million in jewelry and watches before setting fire to the car and making off in another vehicle.
This latest theft comes a little over one month after a thief stole $136 million in jewels from a Leviev exhibit in Cannes, possibly setting a record for the biggest heist in history.
According to John Kennedy of the Jewelers’ Security Alliance, France has the same amount of jewelry thefts as the United States, despite having one-fifth the amount of jewelers.
