Harry Ritchie’s Closing 10 Locations

West coast chain Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers is closing 10 of its 30 locations, a spokesman confirmed to JCK.

The company will not renew the leases of two other stores, leaving the chain with 18 stores.

The closing stores are in Eureka, Calif.; Yuba City, Calif.; College Place, Wash.; Spokane, Wash.; Olympia, Wash.; Bellingham, Wash.; Kelso, Wash.; Medford, Ore.; Roseburg, Ore.; and Salem, Ore. (Lancaster Mall).

Spokesman Jason Davis says the closings stem from the company’s strategic planning.

“We have been planning for a year to adapt to the changing face of retail,” he says. “That includes not only this move but redesigning our stores and bolstering our online offerings. This doesn’t come lightly, but ultimately this will leave our business stronger and more prepared for the future.”

Davis adds that while the economy has played a part in the closings, “these are stores that have under-performed for some time.”

“Frankly, sometimes markets change and this is part of that change,” Davis says.
