Lazare Kaplan Files $500 Million Lawsuit Against Belgian Bank

New York City sightholder Lazare Kaplan has launched a long-threatened lawsuit against Antwerp Diamond Bank, according to a report in the Financial Times.

The suit reportedly accuses the bank of stealing $135 million in diamonds from the company, in concert with another big name in the industry, Erez Daleyot.

LKI claims the loss has left it unable to file financial reports, and seeks $500 million in damages.

The loss also led Lazare Kaplan to sue its insurers for $640 million. That suit was recently settled.
