Oprah Gives Away Pink Rio Tinto Diamonds

It seems that Oprah Winfrey is going out with a bang during the final season
of her show and audience members around the globe are reaping the benefits.
During a Dec. 14 taping of the Oprah Ultimate Australian Adventure in Sydney,
the talk-show host announced she would be giving away a limited-edition “O”
necklace made from white gold and seven pink Argyle diamonds.

Rio Tinto teamed up with The Oprah Winfrey Show to develop the necklace.
Jean-Marc Lieberherr, general manager for the sales and marketing of Rio Tinto
diamonds, tells JCK the focus of
Winfrey’s time in Australia was to showcase unique Australian products. “There
was a great fit with the iconic Argyle diamonds, produced in the east Kimberley
region of Western Australia,” he says.

Rio Tinto will produce 6,000 necklaces, one for each audience member. Those who
attended the show can register online starting Jan. 1 to obtain their necklace.

Liberherr says the audience was extremely excited, overwhelmed, and delighted
upon news of the giveaway—as was Rio Tinto. “We were delighted to take part in the 25th and finale season of The Oprah
Winfrey Show
, which also coincided with 25 years of diamond production from Rio
Tinto’s Argyle Mine.”
