U.S. Online Retail Sales Up 12%

U.S. online retail sales were up 12 percent to $16.8 billion
from Nov. 1 to Dec. 3 according to comScore.

Cyber Monday became the heaviest online spending day on
record at $1.028 billion. The rest
of the week saw four individual days reach $800 million in consumer spending.

Thanksgiving Day saw a 28 percent increase in online spending. Online sales reached $648 million on
Black Friday, a 9 percent increase from last year.

Top 25 retailers experienced a 20 percent increase in online
sales, while the online sales of small and mid-tail retailers remained flat.

According to comScore’s survey of 500 Internet users, 33
percent of consumers agreed with the statement “recommendations from friends on
social media sites are a great way to get gift ideas during the holiday season.“ Twenty-four percent
disagreed and 43 percent remained neutral.
