The lobbying effort against New York Gov. David Paterson’s proposal for a luxury tax on jewelry and watches, and other products has apparently paid off. 
U.S. astronauts who have walked on the moon and bravely pioneered space exploration were the stars of a celebration of the 40th anniversary of human beings’ first lunar landing, presented by Omega, the first and only watch worn on the moon, at BaselWorld 2009 on Mar. 28.

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index, which had declined sharply in February, was flat in March. The Index now stands at 26 (1985=100), up from 25.3 in February. The Present Situation Index declined to 21.5 from 22.3 last month. The Expectations Index increased to 28.9 from 27.3 in February. 
Jewelers of America sent its members updated guidance on the Tom Lantos Block Burmese JADE (Junta’s Anti-Democratic Efforts) Act of 2008, which banned the import of Burmese rubies and jadeite, effective Sept. 27, 2008. 
Montblanc has created a special edition necklace to commemorate Mother’s Day. The “Montblanc Precious Heart” necklace features a heart pendant embellished with the outline of Montblanc’s iconic star pattern and a brilliant, full-cut diamond placed on a sterling silver chain.
