NRDC Equity Partners has decided to sell the business and is focusing talks on one potential buyer, Women’s Wear Daily reports. 
Sterling Jewelers Inc. on Wednesday announced that it has 114 positions at its Akron, Ohio, headquarters due to “the unprecedented trading conditions in the retail marketplace.” 
Zale Corp. on Tuesday said Rodney Carter, chief financial officer, has left the company effective immediately. Cindy Gordon has assumed the role of interim CFO while a search of internal and external candidates is conducted for Carter’s replacement. 
Bridal jewelry manufacturer A. Jaffe has named Evert DeGraeve as vice president of Merchandising and Marketing, In addition, the New York-based company said it is "streamlining its account base by closing the door to 100 of its retailers, in an effort to guarantee more exclusivity to its base of 300 retail partners." 
Jewelry manufacturer Tacori said in a statement Tuesday that a United States District judge has approved a consent judgment and permanent injunction that acknowledges the validity of copyright and trade dress protections for rings designed by Tacori, and requires an Ohio-based manufacturer to pay $650,000 in attorney fees and disgorgement of profits. 
The global recession has impacted the once recession-proof Swiss luxury watch business, according to reports from Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry, the Richemont Group (Cartier’s parent), and the prestigious Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie luxury watch fair in Geneva, Switzerland. 
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry and The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie have launched an international ad campaign to stop consumer purchases of counterfeit watches.

AGS Laboratories, LLC has launched a new diamond grading document, the AGS Laboratories Light Performance Diamond QualityTM Report. It has many of the same features as the existing Diamond QualityTM Document, but now includes a Light Performance Map, shown on the body of the document. In addition, the report includes a separate grade for light performance. 
The annual list of Israel’s largest polished diamond exporters was published by the Israel Diamond Controller’s Office in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor. Topping the list once again is L.L.D. Diamonds Ltd., owned by Lev Leviev, with exports of $417 million in 2008.
