Generally, July and August signal a break in the chaotic activities of the year and bring the promise of vacation. But for jewelers, there’s always something happening. Now that you’ve caught your breath after JCK Las Vegas and Couture, it’s time to head to the Jewelers of America New York show July 25–28 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Below are three reasons to skip the beach and hightail it to New York City.
1.? New Talent This year marks the 32nd edition of the Annual Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award. (Last year’s recipient was Brooklyn-based Manya & Roumen.) This year’s winner is up to you! Cast your vote at the New Designer pavilion; the winner will be announced at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 26.
2.? New Product If you didn’t get a chance to go to Las Vegas in June, the JA Summer Show offers a solution for seeing potential new vendors and styles for the fourth quarter. (And even if you did survive the heat in Sin City, you can never see enough new product, right?) JA offers hundreds of vendors across 12 pavilions, including Antique and Estate, Boutique Retreat, and more.
3. ?Award-Winning Women The Women’s Jewelry Association calls attention to outstanding individuals in the industry once a year with its Awards for Excellence. This year, there are 32 nominees across eight categories, including Jewelry and Watch Design; Retail, 15 or More Stores; Sales and Merchandising; Marketing and Communications; and Editorial/Reporting/Publishing (where JCK’s own Jennifer Heebner received a nomination). The winners are announced July 26 at a gala celebration at Pier 60 on Chelsea Piers.
