As usual, Fashion Week in New York proved that everything old is new again (and again and…).
After the '50s cardigan-and-brooch look, the '30s femme fatale look, the '80s leggings looks, and the '60s mod look, where else but the '70s would designers find inspiration for spring? From belted pantsuits that reminded us of Charlie's Angels to flowing fabrics reminiscent of Three's Company's Mrs. Roper (granted, a younger, stylish version), designers are channeling an updated nod to the Me Decade (thankfully, minus the lamé).
The key trends for Spring/Summer '08 include:
• Floating fabrics—layers of sheers, soft silks, and draping jerseys, along with full skirts, sleeves, and dresses
• Blue hues—neither pastel nor jewel tone, these blues reflect the perfect summer sky
• Bold blocks—summery colors in graphic block designs
• Interesting necklines—halters, asymmetric necklines, and variations of each
Weekly Gem
Yet another "celebrity" (we use that term loosely) jewelry line, this by Brody Jenner and Archangel, is in the works. Jenner, if you're curious, starred in the reality show The Princes of Malibu and is a former Nicole Richie beau. He is the son of 1970s Olympian Bruce Jenner and actress Linda Thompson, best known for dating Elvis Presley and appearing regularly on Hee Haw. (Apparently, being almost famous is in his genes.)
