A Lovely Storm

In a collaboration of a scale we haven't seen since H.Stern teamed up with Diane von Furstenberg a few years ago, Mikimoto and Yohji Yamamoto are in cahoots. And the two international powerhouse brands have created jewels that take just the fashion-forward approach we would expect from such partnerships.

The 29-piece Stormy Weather collection, designed by Yamamoto and manufactured by Mikimoto jewelers, seamlessly blends Yamamoto's signature moodiness with Mikimoto's signature craftsmanship. Stormy Weather focuses heavily on black-and-white shades (of pearls and metals) and silhouettes that reflect Yamamoto's love for fluidity and clean lines. It is the first fruit of a three-year partnership inked between the two Japan-based brands and will be available in all Mikimoto and Yohji Yamamoto boutiques worldwide, and wholesale to retail jewelers.

The collection ranges from a swoon-worthy $1,100 swirling silver cuff to a $55,000 necklace (with graduated-color black pearls in white gold discs to represent the phases of the moon) that illustrates the best of this collaboration: high style, wearability, and unique design concepts.

The collection is a mix of pearl and metal-intense pieces—a bit of a departure from Mikimoto's heritage, but one that proves why the venerable house, like the pearls it is famous for, may be a tradition but is far from stodgy.

Weekly Gem
Just when we thought we'd seen it all, we met MacDaddy (of precious-fishing-lure fame). Then, when we'd thought we'd really seen it all, he managed to surprise us again. The centerpiece of MacDaddy's new Fishing for a Cure line is a platinum pendant/fishing lure set with pink sapphires in the form of a pink ribbon. Ten percent of sales of this multitasking little piece of jewelry will be donated to breast cancer research and recovery. www.MacDaddysFishingLures.com
