Trends on the Radar

When JCKstyle hit the show floors in search of new design for the season, we found many of the same trends we predicted months ago. Floral and nature motifs, black-and-white combinations, and yellow gold (especially with rich brushed or satiny finishes) reigned at the industry's trade shows in Las Vegas last week, and likely will remain strong through the holiday. There were, however, hints at what's to come. Here's a sneak peak at what's on our radar:
  • Black Gold. Given increased demand for black gems (like diamonds and onyx), and fashion's fancy for cool neutrals in clothing, black gold is a no-brainer.
  • Pear Shapes. Designers are favoring the pretty pear, especially flattering in pendants and drop earrings. (We're seeing it, right now, more in gemstones and fashion pieces than in diamonds or bridal.)
  • Burnished Diamonds. At last, designers are taking a break from ubiquitous pavé and rediscovering the more subtle sparkle of burnished stones.
  • Deco Inspiration. As cleaner lines rage in fashion, the geometrics of deco look just right as we head into 2008.

Weekly Gem
Danish design firm Carbon De Luxe launched in New York this week a precious jewelry line aimed exclusively at the gay male market. A portion of sales from the collection, which focuses heavily on gold and diamond body jewelry, will benefit amfAR. www.carbondeluxe.com
